THE ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF UNIVERSITIES ASUU IS A UNION OF UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN NIGERIA ESTABLISHED IN 1978.
ASUU is an affiliate of the Nigerian Association of University Teachers (NAUT), founded in 1965. At that time, there are five universities: University of Nigeria UNN, University of Lagos Unilag, University of Ibadan UI, Ahmadu Bello University ABU, university Ife (Obafemi Awolowo University OAU) On May 30, 2021, Victor Emmanuel osodeke became the president of the ASUU

FORMATION OF ASUU

ASUU STRIKE DURING MILLITARY REGIME
The Union actively participated in the fight against the military regime of the 1980s. In 1988, the Union organized a national strike to obtain honest salaries and autonomy. As a result, on August 7, 1988, ASUU was banned and all property was confiscated. Restarts were allowed in 1990, but the ban was reinstated after another strike on 23 August 1992. However, the agreement reached on September 3, 1992, which was obtained in different unions, including the law of collective negotiation negotiations. Academic Staff union of Universities was deceived in 1994 and 1996 and they protested against Sani Abacha regime and ask for the resignation of Sani Abaca.
ASUU STRIKE AFTER MILLITARY REGIME
After returning to democracy in Nigeria in 1999, the leadership of the Union ask Federal government to meet their demand and give them their right . In 2007 the union went on strike for three months. In May 2008, ASUU had several "warning strike " per week and Demand in from federal government to employ back 49 lecturer that was sacked and high improvement in their salary, including the recovery of 49 teachers. In June 2009, ASUU then embarked on another indefinite strike in which they order all their union in both state and federal universities to adhere with the rule Three months later, in October 2009, the union and other employees signed a consensus on the production measures with the Government. ASUU and all it's union embarked on a another strike on July 1, 2013, and lasted five months on December 16, 2013. The union also Claimed the strike is focued to bring new changes to Nigeria universities and Lecturer income. . Some Nigerian student tagged Academic staff union of universities ASUU's strike as a blessing while other say is a bad thing for them.
Academic staff union of universities ASUU embarked on another strike in Feb 2022 which causes was mainly on federal government failing to meet their demand including increment in Varsities Salary, Revitalization of Nigeria Univerity and Their union Payment platform . The Minister of Education in 2009, March 7, 2022 set up a committee to decide on ASUU demand . The committee consist of seven panels. Dr. Emeritus Nimi Briggs, Aefu Ekwueme Federal University (AEFU) Pro-Kanselier, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, president. Later on March, Academic Staff Union Of Universities ASUU leadership extend strike by 2 month. However, Federal Government executive meet the Academic staff union of universities ASUU leadership led by Prof Emmanuel Osodeke which later resulted into extension into 3 month of ASUU strike.
On August 1, 2022, the suspension was extended for another four weeks. [24] FG continues to negotiate as if the requirements are not met on August 16, 2022, but the meeting promised that it would stop the strike, but the meeting ended at the meeting. ORIGIN OF THE CONTINUATION OF STRIKE
The frequent strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU does not comply with the contract signed by the reaction to the Nigerian government. IMPACT OF ASUU STRIKE ON NIGERIA EDUCATION, STUDENT AND PARENT
Although the association continues to claim to be involved in the struggle for higher education in Nigeria and the empowerment of Nigerian students, many Nigerians view the struggle characterized by relentless strikes as vicious and self-serving. This image was not helped by ASUU, which cannot effectively communicate with Nigerians without being arrogant and aggressive.
