An unidentified Nigerian police officer associated with the Lagos Police Command reportedly shot and killed Bolanle Raheem, a female lawyer.
The incident is believed to have occurred on Sunday morning, 25 December 2022 in the Ajah area of the state.
The shooting is believed to have occurred as the deceased and her family are returning from Christmas service.
Police officers at Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah reportedly ordered the car carrying them to be stopped.
One of the officers was alleged to have shot at the car and the bullet hit the lawyer. The police officers allegedly fled soon after the shooting.
The deceased was reportedly rushed to a hospital, where her death was confirmed.
Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman for the Lagos Police Command, confirmed the incident and said the assistant superintendent of police (ASP) who shot the deceased and two other officers are currently in custody.
“It was an unfortunate and avoidable accident. The ASP who fired and two other people with him have since been taken into custody. They should be taken to SCID for further examination,” Hundeyin posted on Twitter.
