When contacted, Prince Kassim Afegbua, a spokesperson for the former military ruler, denied that Babangida had endorsed Obi, claiming that IBB doesn't have a Twitter account.
"Please, it's not true. Ignore the report of the endorsement. There is no Twitter handle for IBB. If he does speak, it will be in a written statement rather than on Twitter. The Twitter statement's authors are liars.
Omoyele Sowore, the AAC's presidential candidate, has stated that he will not be able to accept the support of former leaders Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Olusegun Obasanjo.
The AAC presidential candidate, who made this statement in a video posted to his Twitter account, added that he would prefer to win the support of millions of Nigerians over billionaires.
In an obvious allusion to Obasanjo's recent support of Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, Sowore declared that he would not accept the endorsement of those he referred to as Nigeria's enemies.
The only option for Nigeria, he declared, is complete liberation. Of course I want to become president of Nigeria, but it is not about my ambition; it is about the millions of Nigerians who are suffering in insecurity, hunger, and starvation.
"I won't be able to accept the support of Obasanjo and Gen Ibrahim Babangida," the speaker continued, adding that it would be unfair to the residents of Odi and Zaki Ibiam as well as the murdered journalists like Dele Giwa.
"I would prefer to have the support of the general populace, who do not have billions of naira in their bank accounts but are in the millions. I would much rather have the support of the oppressed who have suffered the most under this vulcanizing economy that has been imposed on our people and has caused untold suffering. ".
He asserted that he would prefer to have the support of those who protested EndSARs and SAP.
Sowore continued, "I would much rather have the support of the northern Talakawa who have been attacked by Boko Haram, Bandits, and Iswap.".
Some people are desperate to have their support from our people's adversaries, he claimed. ".
His repeated support for @peterobi, according to his Twitter handle, "shows once again that the overrated three-time Nigerian ruler fetishizes the ruination of Nigeria," he added. ".
