Fuel And Naira Note scarcity won't stop us from conducting Election - INEC Chairman

The head of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said on Wednesday that the elections will be held on February 25 and March 11 despite fuel shortages and limited availability of naira banknotes across the country.

Yakubu made the announcement to State House correspondents shortly after briefing the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret'd), and other members of the Federal Executive Council at State House, Abuja.

He said the commission had resolved the two main potential obstacles to its operations; Fuel shortages and scarcity of naira notes.

“Rest assured that elections for the Presidential and National Assembly will be held on February 25 and for the Governorate and State Houses of Assembly on March 11,” he said.

However, Mahmood declined to comment on the Supreme Court's decision to block the federal government from pursuing the new naira policy. Details shortly...
